North Palm Beach, FL real estate began its development during the mid 1950s. Prior to this time, the land consisted of rich farming soil and mangrove swamps. The area that would become North Palm Beach originally consisted of Monet Road and Johnson Dairy Road to the north and south, and US Route 1 and Prosperity Farms to the east and west. The development included extensive dredging to create waterfront cul-de-sacs, as well as a new east-west artery, Lighthouse Drive. By 1958, the community of North Palm Beach had elected its first mayor, Walter E. Thomas, Jr. The mayor, his wife Jackie, and four children (Ted, Larry, Jim and Pam) were the 55th family to move into the village of North Palm Beach.
Lake Park West Road was extended from Old Dixie Highway to US Route 1 in the early 1960s. It was renamed to Northlake, which is heralded as the village’s’ main commercial corridor. In 1970, the enclosed shopping center known asTwin City Mall was built at the corner of Northlake Boulevard and US Route 1, but this structure has since been demolished and replaced by Publix.
